Our property is a smallholding that we are lovingly renovating, after moving here from Surrey in June 2017. The house dates back to at least the early 1800's, and is probably older. It is quirky and has been neglected but is full of interesting features (and some fascinating history). We are situated amongst some stunning country scenery and have four acres of fields, woods and even a pond for you to explore. So far the animal head count is 16 chickens, 2 ducks, 1 cat, 5 goats and sometimes a couple of pigs.

We have two B&B rooms in the main house plus two authentic Mongolian yurts each in their own field. We also have two self-catering holiday cottages which we lovingly converted from old farm buildings.

We are down a tiny bridleway (that looks like a path) with nothing but farmland around us. It is peaceful and green and we regularly see wildlife in the woods and fields - many rabbits, red deer, stoats, badgers and lots of  birds including Buzzards and Tawny and Barn Owls.

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

Higher Trenear Farm is located near Helston, Cornwall. We are not far from the main Helston - Redruth road so we are in easy reach of the Lizard and all its stunning beaches. Helston itself is only 3 miles away and a little further on is the charming harbour town of Porthleven with some amazing restaurants. St Michael's Mount is only a half hour drive away, and is well worth a visit along with many other attractions towards Lands End such as the Minack theatre and Porthcurno beach (just voted one of the top 100 beaches in the world!).

Within a very short walk is a wonderful cafe called The Homestead that does fab food during the day if you don't want to cook! Or perhaps you fancy tea and cake after a day out (open Wed - Sun, 9am-4pm).

This is a beautiful part of the world to explore. It is a walkers paradise, but also has some of the most beautiful beaches and coves in the country. Steeped in history, it is at the heart of mining and smuggling legend. Poldark mine is half a mile from us, and is a fascinating half day tour. The Lizard is still unspoilt and retains a quant charm that sets it apart from your average holiday destination.

TESTIMONIALS

I have only good things to say about our stay at Higher Trenear Farm. Even before our stay, communication from the very friendly hosts was great. Directions and signage were detailed and spot-on. Upon arrival, Kate and Terry gave us the warmest welcome and made us feel instantly relaxed and at home. The room and en suite felt like a little oasis of calm and everything was spotlessly clean. Thoughtful touches everywhere - you could tell the hosts put a lot of thought into details. Just lovely. Breakfast was wonderful - nothing was too much trouble. The location was a great base for where we wanted to explore. All this, and we also got spend time with the goats before we set off in the morning. My only regret is that I didn't book an additional night staying here.

B&B Guest, June 2023

My family and I had an absolutely fantastic stay at The Dairy. Lovely modern accommodation, clean and fully equipped a perfect home from home. Ideal location to discover the West of Cornwall with about 30 mins travel to visit popular destinations, St. Ives, The Lizard, St. Michaels Mount. Really felt welcomed by the host and invited to experience the goats and chickens that live in and around the property. My two daughters enjoyed the interaction and loved the tyre swing and playing hide and seek in within the secure outside areas. The youngest fell in love with "Verity" the farm cat and we have some lovely photos that are now on her bedroom wall. I would definitely recommend this property to anybody looking for either a relaxing break or a base to explore this part of Cornwall.

Holiday Cottage Guest, February 2023

Well what can we say, this was a perfect break away, just what we needed. Kate and Terry were the perfect hosts with so much attention to detail and care for us throughout our stay. The tea and chocolate brownie were delicious on our arrival.
The yurt and kitchen was well stocked and lots of additional extras and we could easily have spent a week here. The location was tranquil and the animals were a success. It is very rare these days to escape the real world but we were lucky.

We will be back.
